US weekly export hide sales down 37%; YTD shipments down 14%

The hide market remained stable on Thursday February 27, with one trade reported on heavy native steers (HNS) at steady levels. Market participants reported limited activity, as hide trading continues at a slow pace.

US export hide sales decreased by 37% to 362,976 pieces in the week to February 20 from 574,484 pieces the week prior, while shipments fell by 6% to 448,012 pieces from 478,305 pieces.

Total export sales for the 2025 marketing year were 3,844,510 pieces in the week to February 20, almost all cured hides.

Total shipments for the 2025 marketing year were 3,604,622 pieces in the week to February 20, down by 14% from the previous year.

The average year-to-date weekly trend for federally inspected slaughter was 547,242 pieces. Export sales averaged 480,564 pieces, and export shipments averaged 450,578 pieces.
