Cattle Slaughter Projected Higher Into Holiday Weekend

Cattle slaughter has was up again last week, finishing at an estimated 499,000 head. Slaughter this week is forecast at 550,000 head, up 3.6 percent from last week and down 15 percent relative to a year ago. Slaughter is forecast to continue an upswing through May and June as producers try to catch up with strong, summer beef demand.
