Product Testing for Safety and Accuracy

Safety testing of ingestible cannabinoid products is essential to the long-term health of the industry.  In May, a Florida company recalled lead tainted product discovered through the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) newly instituted random testing of retail CBD products.  In a separate incident, a lawsuit was filed in Florida in May by a consumer that purchased product from American Shaman, which was shown to contain excess heavy metals.  The product also contained yeasts and molds at levels three times acceptable levels, per analysis by ProVerde. ProVerde also tested the product pre-sale for American Shaman, where it received a PASS.  This highlights issues in third party analytics, where test results can differ dramatically from lab to lab or sample to sample.  What happens to product after being tested is beyond the control of the lab, but manufacturers can make changes to final product, or accidentally…
