Hemp Still Under Pressure

Hemp producers continue to suffer the consequences of decades of prohibition, and a cultural aversion to cannabis and cannabis culture.  There are legitimate concerns on the part of law enforcement in the course of their work, particularly with smokable hemp.  Technology is desperately needed for law enforcement and the hemp sector to help ease the confusion between MJ and hemp.  There simply is no widely available kit for them to test crops in the field, and some states have budget and staffing issues that impede their ability to perform analysis in their labs.

 

Ohio only recently added equipment for determining THC levels in cannabis.  Though MJ is largely decriminalized in the state, traffickers are an enforcement priority, and grant funding from the state’s Attorney General enabled crime labs to procure instruments capable testing material in-house.  The AG also provided…
