Organ Wheat Prices Remain Subdued but Demand for Organic Flour Remains Elevated

Organic wheat prices remain depressed in the mid-west generating divergence in prices between what is available in the mid-west and what is available in the east. Bids in the mid-west are seen between $6 and $6.25. Prices of organic feed wheat in the east are bid near $8.50 per bushel but offered closer to $9.50. Historically organic wheat prices have been below organic corn prices, but with the abundance of organic corn available and the impending bumble crop harvest, organic corn prices have slipped below organic wheat prices.

There appears to be very little organic feed grade wheat that is imported into the US. Most of the organic wheat that is imported is Durham wheat used for pasta. Part of the reason there could be a bid in organic wheat especially for soft kinds of wheat (which are low in protein and used in feed), has been the strong demand for organic flour used in cakes.
