Cured Hide Shipments to Korea Double

US cured hide shipments to Korea have nearly doubled, an approximate 99% increase, from week 48 to 49 as Korean auto tanneries continue to experience a robust recovery. The nearby end-of-year holidays are pushing buyers and sellers alike to finish-up purchases by the end of next week. Steers remain at fairly steady prices, while Branded Cows (BC) receive more interest.

For week ending December 3, export sales for 2020 marketing year decreased 11 percent to 436,611 from 491,171 and shipments increased 13 percent to 473,014 from 420,169. Sales for marketing year 2020 totaled 24,969,082—mostly all hides. The average year-to-date weekly trends for federally inspected slaughter were 611,453, total export sales were 509,573 and total export shipments were 516,402.
