Slaughter is moving at a firm pace this week ahead of the Carnival holiday which is for two days next week.

This week, green prices rose again 3 pesos for light/heavy steer hides and 2 pesos for cows hides.

Pundits expect this week green prices will be repeated in the next week.

On the other hand, good quality Buenos Aires wet salted heavy steers continue quoting unchanged from last weeks, at about US$0.26 per kg.

Demand remains low for footwear and Moroccan leather and firm for automotive leather.

January slaughter reported 1.0 million head, down 6% compared to December and a down 14% on year-on-year comparison.  

It is the largest decrease for January in the last five years.
