Emerging Hempseed Research

Current research into hempseed was presented today at the Hemp Products and Animal Health Conference hosted by the University of Tennessee.  A conference grant from the FDA ‘s Center for Veterinary Medicine (CVM) funded the program, and participants were encouraged to also bring more research to CVM for funding. Interest in hemp research is burgeoning across the US, and federal support adds momentum.  Land Grant Universities have selected research based on relevance to local or regional issues that have arisen from the upstart hemp sector or overlap with existing ag markets.  Researchers are responding to problems identified by producers, such as uses for spent biomass at Oregon State (OSU) or studying hempseed harvest byproducts for cattle feed at Kansas State (KSU).
