Steer prices were reported up today, returning to last Thursday’s price levels. Heavy Native Steers and Butt Branded Steers have become difficult to move for several sellers, but some automotive tanners continue to trade the selections at steady prices. Buying at steady levels have allowed tanners to lock in leather prices, but a decline in price, like what much of the market is trading at currently, is expected in the near-term. Ford Motors announced temporary plant shutdowns at several locations through the month of June in response to the shortage of microchips.
