April Feathermeal Exports Surge Despite Reports of Shipping Difficulties

Trading in the protein market was mostly quiet this afternoon with few changes reported. Feathermeal did trade higher out of the Carolinas and Alabama/Georgia markets today. Pet grade poultry by-product meal (PFG PBM) traded lower as well. Sources have indicated that spot availability has increased due to a slowdown in pet food demand as well as difficulty in getting containers for export.

Total U.S. inedible meat meal and feather meal exports for the month of April witnessed year-over-year increases of 15.9 and 147.8 percent, respectively. With 86,599 MT reported on global exports for inedible meat meal and 13,597 MT recorded for feather meal for the month of April. Indonesia accounted for 75 percent of the feather meal export market with 10,728 MT. Mexico surpassed Indonesia on the feathermeal market by around 7 percent…
