Condition Ratings Fall for Corn, Rise for Cotton, and the Winter Wheat Harvest is Underway

Corn and soybean planting are several weeks ahead of schedule this year and the market will now begin to switch its attention from crops getting in the ground to weather and drought concerns.  USDA planting intentions for corn were for 91.1 million acres.  The latest weekly planting report shows 95 percent of the corn crop has been planted, up from 90 percent last week.  This is eight points over the historical average and three points above last year’s pace. Remaining acres to be planted are estimated at 4.6 million.  Colorado made the most progress over the week, planting 20 percent of their crop. Sixteen of eighteen reporting states are ahead of their historical planting average, only Colorado and Kansas trail. Eighty one…
