Optimism Grows Amongst Sellers on Strong Steer Hide Demand

Hide buyers and sellers have a positive outlook on the market in the near-term with steers hides in strong demand and buyers willing to pay slightly higher than last traded levels. Branded Steers and Heavy Texas Steers traded $1 higher than yesterday’s prices. The processor steer market is active as customers are looking for cheaper material.

For week ending June 10, export sales for 2021 marketing year decreased 48 percent to 303,875 from 583,701 and shipments increased 19 percent to 547,452 from 461,883. Sales for marketing year 2021 totaled 11,313,504—mostly all hides. The average year-to-date weekly trends for federally inspected slaughter were 638,463, total export sales were 491,891 and total export shipments were 505,116.
