Renewable Diesel Consumption Hits Monthly All-Time High

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) reported 1.6 billion gallons of renewable fuel were consumed during June, three percent over May and 17 percent above June 2020. Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) credit generation of 1.8 billion RINs was 3.6 percent over May and 17 percent above June 2020.  The biomass-based diesel category (D4) led the way, rising Eight percent from May.

Biomass-based diesel (D4) consumption increased 7.8 percent to 272.3 million gallons, its high for the year, and was 9.2 percent above June 2020. During June, biodiesel consumption increased 4.8 percent, renewable diesel use climbed 13.3 percent, and renewable jet fuel increased 24 percent. In a comparison to last year, June biodiesel consumption is down 5.3 percent, renewable diesel is 50 percent higher, and renewable jet fuel is 30 percent below June of 2020.
