Carryover Weekend Hide Trades Bring $1 Drop for Heavy Texas Steer

Carryover hide trades from over the weekend were reported today, lowering Heavy Texas Steers $1 and trades for Heavy Native Steers and Butt Branded Steers were unchanged from last Friday’s price levels. The Jacobsen Hide Index on Friday closed at $48.54 compared to $47.33 Friday the week prior. Packer beef margins for the week were a positive $383.27 per head versus a positive $402.02 the week before according to HedgersEdge.com. 

A steady call was not for the animal proteins market with limited movement reported for most items. For the week ending July 31st, 2021, cattle slaughter is anticipated to be 655,000 head, a 0.46 percent increase from last week and a 2.94 percent growth from the previous year.
