PBP Pet Food Grade Remains Under Pressure

Lower pricing was noted for the poultry-by-product pet food grade (PFG) for the Southeast and Midwest FOB regions. Accounts of buyer hesitancy have been noted from multiple participants. However, volatility remains, leading to wide ranges and unsettled undertones.

For the week ending July 31st, 2021, broiler slaughter is anticipated to be 167 million head, a .2 percent increase from last week and a one percent growth from the previous year. According to the USDA July 28th, Broiler Hatchery report; Broiler growers in the United States weekly program placed 187 million chicks for meat production during the week ending July 24, 2021, down one percent from a year ago. Cumulative placements from the week ending January 9, 2021 through July 24, 2021 for the United States were 5.42 billion. Cumulative placements were up 1 percent from the same period a year earlier.
