EU Tariffs on US Biodiesel Extended Until 2026

European Tariffs on US biodiesel will be extended until 2026.  The tariffs were originally imposed in 2009 following a nine-month investigation that showed US -produced biodiesel was being sold into the EU at below market cost.  The measure was last extended in 2015 for a five-year period.

The European Commission ruled to extend the tariffs an additional five years until 2026. The commission concluded that US producers are operating below full capacity and removal of the tariffs would likely lead to an increase in low priced imports, according to an earlier article by Fastmarkets reporter Alexandra Chapman. Spare Capacity of around 694,000 metric tons would provide incentive for US production to the EU. The commission stated US producers were already selling to third countries at prices below those in the United States.
