Steer Hide Market Remains Quiet, But Cow Hide Interest Continues

Please Note

New Friday Publication Hours in Effect — Trade Reporting Deadline 2 p.m. CST Tomorrow

The Jacobsen will implement new Friday publication hours tomorrow, September 10. The deadline for trade reporting will be at 2 p.m. CST with publication of the Hide & Leather Price Guide/Commentary soon after.

Activity in the fed steer market continues very quietly this week. Chinese tanners have reported that they hold plenty of inventory and do not need to buy with any urgency. Sellers have reported decent cow interest. Footwear tanners also have expressed their lack urgency in buying, but they have been inquiring about prices. Overseas, larger volumes of hides are being sold at discount, but smaller volumes are being sold at current trading levels. Most Italian buyers have been out of the market as well, stating they have enough inventory.
