Organic Soybean Meal Prices Remain Buoyed on the East Coast

 

Organic soybean meal prices remain elevated. Prices in PA are valued at near $1,550 per short ton. Prices are quoted at $1,500 at Baltimore on a truck and $1,400 on the West Coast. Merchandisers tell The Jacobsen/Fastmarkets that the West Coast meal is generally a lower protein Chinese meal.

The hand-to-month purchasing of organic soybean meal continues. Few consumers are willing to lock in prices at current levels. The change in the dynamic in organic soybean meal price structure appears to have caught the market off guard. Instead of locking in prices at current levels, feed mills appear to be willing to pay short-term with the attitude that prices are already at unsustainable prices, so it will not be an issue if it climbs slightly higher.

Market participants will need to wait another month until the end of October to get word on how the U.S. Department of Commerce will deal with the anti-dumping duty. The CVD duty is already locked in place. Those…
