BP to More than Double Renewable Diesel Output at Cherry Point

Rewable Diesel Optimization, Hydrocracker Improvement, & Cooling Water Infrastructure Projects to Begin at Cherry Point

BP says it will more than double Cherry Point’s renewable diesel production capability to an estimated 2.6 million barrels, or about 109 million gallons a year through its renewable diesel optimization (RDO) project.  The increased production capability is expected to reduce the CO2 emissions from BP’s Cherry Point diesel production by approximately 400,000 to 600,000 tons per year.

In 2018, Cherry Point became the first Pacific Northwest refiner to process biomass-based feedstocks, such as vegetable oils and rendered animal fats, alongside conventional feedstocks like crude oils. The renewable diesel produced through co-processing is chemically identical to petroleum diesel.

The RDO project is one of three announced today by BP.  The other two projects are a hydrocracker improvement project (HIP)…
