Branded Steers Price Drop

The hide market was active to start off the week with a few steer and cow reports. Heavy Texas and Native Steers are seen trading $1 less than last week’s price. Branded Steers are seen trading $3 cheaper and middleweight Butt Branded Steers increased by $.50. We also are seeing Jumbo Colorado Branded Steers and Heavy Branded Heifers trading $1 more than last week’s price. Sources reported a couple of active trades on Native Cows being down $1. Trading will iikley start to slow through the week and continued into the US New Years, and Chinese Lunar New Year holidays. 

For the week ending December 25, 2021, cattle slaughter is forecast at 475,000 head, a 14.3 percent increase from 2020 with is mostly due to Christmas falling on a Saturday this year versus Friday last year. The forecast is a 27.8 percent drop from the previous week due and marginally higher from the same week in 2019. According to the USDA Actual Slaughter Under Federal Inspection for December 4th
