In December, Argentine slaughter totaled 1.12 million head. This was a 2 percent increase from November, but 10 percent less on year-on-year comparison.

The total slaughter in year 2021 was 9 percent lower than in 2020, following the recent trend.

Currently, the low slaughter is due to absenteeism caused by COVID-19 and the vacation season. Frigorificos are trying to take the opportunity increase green fresh hide prices without much success.

Good quality Buenos Aires Wet Salted Steers prices continue quoting at about US$0.75 per kg.

Demand remains stable.
