2022 Renewable Diesel Consumption Seen Higher, Biodiesel Lower – EIA

EIA Projects Increased Consumption of Renewables into Diesel for 2022, 2023

The U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) slightly increased the production forecast for renewable fuels blended in with diesel for 2022 and 2023. In its latest Short-Term Energy Outlook (STEO), the projected blending of renewables into diesel increased 2,000 bpd to 231 thousand bpd for 2022, and 1,000 bpd to 253 thousand in 2023.  Expected production of renewables into diesel is 191 thousand bpd for 2022, and 210 thousand bpd for 2023.

Biodiesel and renewable diesel are the primary fuels blended into the nation’s transportation pool.  The EIA’s 2022 biodiesel consumption outlook fell 4,000 bpd to 121,000 bpd. Biodiesel production is pegged at 114,000 bpd for 2022.  Biodiesel consumption is expected to climb 1,000 bpd in 2023 to 122,000 bpd.  2023 biodiesel production is forecast at 116,000 bpd.
