Light movement was reported in the protein market today with most particiapnts testing the market and assessing trade levels and pricing as the end of quarter one approaches.
Bird flu has now been detected in the backyard, wild birds, and commercial flocks in almost a quarter of U.S. states. Commercial flocks include Delaware, Connecticut, Iowa, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, South Dakota, and Kentucky. The continued outbreaks have prompted increased biosecurity measures including farmers culling their flocks after the disease is detected.
Importing countries including Mexico, China and Korea have imposed state-specific import restrictions in response. Last week, Canada issued a press release placing restrictions on all movement of poultry products from avian influenza-impacted US states, Delaware, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Missouri, and South Dakota.
