US Cattle Slaughter Expected to Decline Further in Summer

Steer trading was active for buyers in Mexico with heavy native and butt branded steers trading sideways for regular weight packer material and $1 higher than last traded levels for light weight heavy native steers material.
Sellers reported minimal carryover business over the weekend except for the 20+ loads of material going to Mexico.
A few packer plan to hold their offers steady to last week whereas some plan to increase asking prices due to the demand they’ve reportedly received last week.

Cattle slaughter is forecast by The Jacobsen at 600,000 head this week, down 4.00% from last week and down 1.25% from last year. Cattle slaughter finished last week at an estimated 625,000 head, down 2.65% from the week prior and down 2.56% from last year.
