Industrial Hemp Crops Face Increased Weather Volatility

Cropping conditions for industrial hemp producers in 2023 are mixed.  Missouri and Kansas, two states with fiber and grain hemp acreage in 2023, are experiencing extreme to exceptional drought.   Parts of the Midwest are also quickly seeing soil moisture evaporate.

Missouri’s extreme drought is mainly confined to the central part of the state.   Several hundred acres of fiber hemp are reportedly planted in the southeastern part of the state, with up to 600 acres planned.  That crop may escape the oppressive early season drought but there is a lot of the growing season ahead.
