Hide Buyers Active in US Market

Bidding activity was strong today from hide buyers for steer and cow hides. Sellers of both, steers and cow hides, reported interest at steady to current market levels and willingness to pay more for select material that sellers have limited availability for.
Automotive hide tanners were active in the market last week and this week for heavy native and butt branded steers.
Upholstery tanners in Hebei province returned to the market this week in need of cow hides. These buyers have been inactive over the past several months while leather business was slow.
Sellers expect steer prices to increase in price in the near-term while cattle production has slowed, decreasing availability of hides.
