Australian company Ecofibre inked a $9 million annual supply deal with Under Armour Inc. to provide a specialty yarn trademarked as Membership required to view content. Ecofibre’s subsidiary Hemp Black has signed a memorandum of understanding with Under Armour to provide a renewable alternative that replaces petroleum inputs.
Hemp Black has focused on the vast market for carbon black, a ubiquitous pigment found in inks, tires, fabrics, electronics, and shoes. Carbon black is produced by burning crude oil and represents a portion of manufacturers’ carbon footprint that is addressable by Hemp Black’s new product.
