Cattle Slaughter in Uruguay and Argentina Plunge

Argentina

August 31

Argentina exported around 93 thousand beef tons of carcass equivalent (tec) in July. This was just below what was achieved in May but 27 percent higher in relation to June (73 thousand tec).
Slaughter fell sharply this week causing prices rise.
Farm prices remain high as beef is not sold leading many slaughterhouses to slow or shutter operations.
Good quality Buenos Aires wet salted heavy steer prices are quoting upwards at about US$0.52 per kg.

August 24

Slaughter has slowed due to increased cattle prices and heavy rains. Some frigorificos have completely halted operations while others run one or two days leading to less volume.
