Lithuanian Hempseed Imports Grow as Canadian Volume Declines

Canada remains the most important exporter of hempseed to the US.  The upstart hempseed segment in the US has been unable to compete with entrenched Canadian trade flows.

Hempseed is a challenging crop to produce, harvest, handle, and store.  US growers have varying experience with hempseed – on a production scale – when crop commodity prices are a solid bet and marketing opportunities abound.  Key farmgate buyers are in the Prairie Provinces of Canada, removing much of the marketing risk for Canadian growers.
