Automakers Seek Stable Supply Chains

Less than 48 hours in advance of the United Auto Workers (UAW) deadline for significant progress on labor negotiations, Detroit’s Big Three are no closer to meeting the UAW’s demands.  Workers are seeking a 40 percent pay raise, tiered wage schemes, and a 32-hour work week.

“The fundamental reality is that the UAW’s demands can be described in one word — untenable,” GM President Mark Reuss said in an opinion piece published in the Detroit Free Press today. “As the past has clearly shown, nobody wins in a strike. We have delivered a record offer. That is a fact.”
