Regular weight Heavy Native Steers (HNS) traded $1 lower than the last reported levels and the lightweight category also had a $0.50 price decline. Regular weight Butt Branded Steers (BBS) were down $1.50 from last traded levels. This downward price pressure was likely due to the reduced purchase volumes from auto tanners have while the United Auto Workers (UAW) strike is ongoing.
The UAW expanded its strike today to the General Motors SUV manufacturing plant in Texas. The plant manufactures the Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Yukon and Cadillac Escalade which all contain leather from cattle hides.
Sellers expect their offer lists to be similar or to slighly fewer hides than last week. Demand continues from upholstery tanners in China, particularly for cow hides.
