Tension is rising in the pan-cannabis space as varying interests vie for equitable oversight, market access, and an identity.  The hemp space is bifurcated between the cannabinoid segment, which sits squarely in the realm of cannabis, and the fiber and grain segments, which are part of the industrial hemp complex. There is no overlap in product applications.

One disagreement between long-time hemp stakeholders is whether to further separate cannabinoid hemp from industrial hemp in the various venues of policymaking and standards development.  Industrial hemp operators are very clear that for them to advance their efforts, they need to divorce themselves from the contentious cannabis space.
