Hide & Leather Trends Heading into 2024

Hide & Leather Trends Heading into 2024

Midweek trading and bidding were not as active as the prior two Wednesday’s. The packer hide trades were for Heavy Texas Steers (HTS) and Butt Branded Steers (BBS), both weighing 64/66lbs. HTS were sold down $1.50/piece and BBS was steady to last traded levels.
Sellers reported large volumes of jumbo weighted hides available, but few regular weight or light weight hides.
Destinations with most activity were Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Mexican and Chinese tanners were relatively quiet today.
Most buyers have communicated interest in cow hides, with some bidding steady to current market price levels. Bids for fed steers are roughly $2 lower than the last traded levels.
Colorado Branded Steer and Branded Steer hides continue to be under the most price pressure in the market.
