Chinese Tanneries to Begin Holiday Downtime Next Week

Chinese Tanneries to Begin Holiday Downtime Next Week

Sellers reported continued trading activity following weekend negotiations. Hides traded steady to current market pricing, or sometimes higher, for material that the Price Guide does not include, such as premium Native Cows, premium Dairy Steers and wet blue hides. Regular weight Heavy Texas Steer hides were traded at $24/piece, which is down $2.50/piece from yesterday’s report and steady with last Friday’s levels.
Tanneries in China are expected to shut down for Lunar New Year (LNY) celebrations beginning mid-January for several weeks, depending on the incoming leather orders. Typically, tanneries will reopen in beginning of February, but some may extend the closure for a few weeks longer if they do not have many leather orders.
Packer offer lists are expected to be released tonight with similar selections and price offers as last week.
