In January, slaughter totaled 1.16 million head, 7% up from December and 3% down from the year prior.
This week was a short working week in Argentina as both Monday and Tuesday were the Carnival holiday.
Slaughter volumes didn’t increase this week from last due to the holidays.
Good quality Buenos Aires wet salted heavy steers continue quoting unchanged from the prior week at about US$0.55 per kg.
There is limited leather demand, but semi-finished and finished prices continue to fall. The European buyers have minimal demand. Tanneries remain slow and are uneasy about political movements.

Slaughter runs at normal levels.
Good quality Buenos Aires wet salted heavy steers are quoting unchanged from the prior week at about US$0.55 per kg.
