Animal Proteins – Friday

Animal Proteins – Friday

The market was quiet today with no changes.

Looking at the monthly averages in February, the markets were mixed in terms of price direction with intra-month volatility seen.

The one exception was ruminant meat and bonemeal which was flat with January on limited changes through the month.

Ruminant bloodmeal varied by region, with the Texas Panhandle dropping 4.7 percent from January and the Mo. River up 2.9 percent.

Porcine meat and bone meal was firmer from the mid-to-end of February on indications of increased domestic demand as the spring season approaches. The monthly average rose 7.5 percent, or $23.17/st, from last month.

Porcine bloodmeal was on the opposite side of the spectrum, dropping 10.2 percent, or $151.91/st from February’s monthly average. Sources conveyed a continued loss of demand in feed formulations, as the price of soybean meal and other feed related items dropped.
