USDA Continues Rule-making Campaign

The organic sector is relatively new, even though it feels as though it has been around forever, to some. The reality is that it is still a very young marketplace, evidenced in the recent proliferation of organic policy development. The Strengthening Organic Enforcement Act (SOE) and the Organic Livestock and Poultry Standards (OLPS) are both meant to level the playing field in organic markets, as well as assuage consumers over various concerns.

Those concerns have given rise to ancillary certifications for issues like animal welfare, which the OLPS is crafted to address. As the USDA carries on with its campaign to restore integrity to organic markets, two key segments are now being scrutinized, having no specific rules governing their production.
