Market sources reported no trades outside the previously set ranges for animal proteins in the US for Monday April 15.
For the week ending April 20, 2024, hog slaughter is forecast at 2.450 million head, less than a quarter percent down from 2023. Over the next six weeks, hog slaughter is projected to average 2.417 million head per week, 0.60% above 2023 levels.
Based on the Estimated Weekly Meat Production from the USDA, hog slaughter for the week ending April 13 was at 2.485 million head, 2.40% up from the respective week in 2023. Year-to-date hog slaughter was at 37.566 million head, 0.70% above 2023 for the same time. Production levels, year-to-date, were at 8.120 million pounds, less than half a percent above 2023.
