Shoe sales up two percent from last year, hide buying remains weak

A few sellers lowered their offer prices on a variety of hide selections on Tuesday. Following the release of offer lists, most bids were approximately $0.50/piece to $2/piece down from last traded levels which sellers will counter tonight.
Sellers hope that by lowering offer prices, demand will increase and inventories will decrease.
A US packer said that overall hide demand from shoe tanners was weak but boot leather demand was moderate.
Large tanners in China were the most active buyers in the market.
