Bidding at a minimum in US hide market; buyers wait for hide offers

A few packers released their offer lists on Monday April 22, which included less hide selections and volumes than in the previous week. More lists will be released late on Tuesday.

One seller said they received bids for dairy cow hides lower by $0.50 per piece than previously traded prices. Dairy cow hide interest has been weak for several sellers over the past two weeks.

Multiple sellers reported that several furniture hide tanners in China’s Hebei province were slower to send deposits and open lines of credit during the week of April 15. The delays indicated buyers’ cash flow difficulties.

A source said that there were minimal leather orders in Europe but added that active buyers in the hide trading market preferred small volumes of hides with quick delivery.
