US steer hide sellers report limited availability

Several steer hide sellers in the US reported well-sold positions as of Tuesday June 4, indicating limited availability of steer hides for the remainder of the week.

A US packer reported trades of regular-weight heavy native steer (HNS) and butt-branded steer hides at prices up by $1.50 per piece and up by $0.50 per piece respectively from last-reported prices. This packer typically reports hides on the upper end of Fastmarkets’ price ranges.

Another seller reported regular-weight HNS at $29 per piece, unchanged from the previous traded price.

A few sellers expected hide offers to be released on Tuesday and Wednesday June 5, which were likely to be focused on cow hides due to greater availability and less demand than steer hides.
