European hide prices soften; Brazilian tanners struggle with EUDR requirements

Most European hide material traded down by an average of €0.10 per piece from last traded levels due to lack of orders for finished leather. Brazilian tanners continued to face challenges with location and providing the information needed to follow the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

Argentina
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship reported on May 22 that frozen and fresh chilled beef exports, mainly to China and Germany, had grown year on year during the first four months of 2024.

The National Food Safety and Quality Service (SENASA) previously recorded that beef exports for April totaled 44,347 tonnes, down 18% from the month prior. The decrease was due to a three-day strike by the Association of State Workers (ATE) in late April.

May export figures are expected to be released by the end of the month.
