Dismal cow hide trading; Roof collapse at Cargill plant

Please Note: July 3 Trade Reporting Deadline 12pm CST
The publication deadline for trade reporting on Wednesday July 3 will be at 12pm US Central time, with publication of the Hide & Leather Price Guide/Commentary soon after.

Steer hide trading was moderate on Tuesday July 2, whereas cow hide trading was dismal. The main topic of conversation was the rain induced roof collapse at the Dodge City Cargill plant in Kansas. The collapse caused a halt in operations, but the plant is expected to continue to ship product to customers throughout the remainder of the week, according to a statement released by Cargill.

On July 2, regular weight heavy native steer and heavy Texas steer hides traded higher than last reported levels, but steady to the packer’s last sale, at $29 per piece and $24 per piece respectively.
