The US hide market had a quiet tone for Thursday July 25, which is typically the most-active trading day of the week. Sellers reported that a lower-than-usual number of bids were received throughout the week; most of the interest was for items that sellers did not have available, such as branded steer hides.

Hides traded on Thursday were flat to lower compared with previously traded prices. Processor lightweight and regular-weight heavy native steer (HNS) hides traded $1 per piece lower than the day prior, and processor lightweight and regular-weight butt branded steer (BBS) hides traded $0.50 per piece lower than a day earlier.

A few sellers reported minimal demand for dairy cow hides, which drove the lower end of the price spread for northern dairy cows down by $0.75 per piece from previously reported levels.
