Moderate interest from Asian footwear, automotive tanners supports hide prices

A few big packers traded steer hides at flat to higher prices on Tuesday August 20 compared with the prior week’s closing levels, despite the decreases reported on Monday. The demand that supported the traded prices were from automotive and footwear hide tanners.

Regular weight heavy Texas steer (HTS) hides were reported at $24.00 per piece, up from the previous reported trade at $21.00 per piece the day prior. The packer said that $24.00 per piece was the lowest price of all their recent HTS hides sales. They previously reported having good demand for the material from the athleisure leather footwear sector from Asian tanners.
