European hide operators uncertain on market direction after return from summer closures

Brazil
The price of Brazilian wet blue TR1 hides was $0.60-0.62 per square foot during the week to Thursday August 29, unchanged from the week prior, a seller source told Fastmarkets.

Most market participants are anticipating a pick-up in demand following the All-China Leather Fair (ACLE) that will take place September 3-5.

Europe
The European hide market continued to move at a slow pace during August 13-27 since several tanneries remained closed for summer vacation and will not be back to fully operational before the beginning of the week of September 2.

The number of closed trades was low, and prices were unchanged, according to market participants. There was great uncertainty among operators regarding the direction that the market will take after reopening.
