Trading in the US animal proteins market was quiet on Friday October 11, with minimal price changes reported.

October WASDE on livestock, poultry
The October update to the USDA’s World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates (WASDE) brought increased estimates for 2024/25 total production, up by 335 million lb from the September WASDE, with a higher beef output more than offsetting lower production of pork, broiler and turkey.

Beef production for 2024 was forecast at 27 billion lb, up by 205 million lb from the September WASDE but down by 36 million lb from 2023.

Sources told Fastmarkets they expect increased cow slaughter and heavier cattle weights in the second half of 2024, even though head counts remain down year on year.
