Hide buyers refuse to budge on steer prices, despite sellers’ attempt to increase

The US hide market had a quiet tone to start the week on Monday November 4, while most market participants discussed the prior week’s standoff between buyers and sellers when trying for higher-than-last-traded hide prices.

During the week of October 28-November 1, the buyside of the market was accepting of price increases for spready hides intended for the furniture upholstery sector. Several sellers reported increases on premium quality dairy steers and various cow hide selections that are not listed on the Jacobsen Hide Price Guide.
