Hide market direction uncertain on November 21

The hide market on November 21 reflected steady demand in some areas but remained uncertain overall, according to market participants.

In China, upcoming tariffs dampened buyer confidence despite low prices, with sellers skeptical of buyers’ reduced purchases.

Thailand’s hide demand slowed due to high tannery inventories, while Korean tanners were buying steer materials for automotive needs despite reporting limited leather orders.

Steer hides traded steadily, with strong demand for premium hides, although mid- to low-quality hides faced weaker interest. Heavy native steer, heavy Texas steer, branded steer and Colorado branded steer hides traded sideways from last-reported levels.

A US packer told Fastmarkets that their wet blue inventories were sold out for near-term delivery, driven by robust shoe leather orders that were unexpectedly received.
