La Niña drought to affect Argentine crops, put pressure on beef, hide markets

Argentina
Argentina’s farmers are concerned with mounting challenges as a La Niña weather pattern returns to start the year 2025, bringing dry conditions that threaten soybean and corn crops, according to market participants.

After a devastating drought in 2022-23 slashed soy harvests to record lows, growers are again contending with insufficient soil moisture and urgent calls for rain. With critical rainfall needed in January and February 2025, weather forecasts predict below-average precipitation, raising concerns over reduced yields.

The economic backdrop further pressures farmers, with low crop prices and tight profit margins compounding the situation, Fastmarkets analysts said. As crops in some areas hold steady, others risk significant losses if conditions do not improve soon.
